Vitreo-retinal diseases are conditions that affect structures inside the eye called the vitreous and the retina. Vitreo-retinal diseases such as Diabetic retinopathy, Age related macular degeneration, Retinal detachment, Macular hole etc. require urgent management. Patients often require laser therapy, intravitreal injections in the eye or an eye surgery. Prompt treatment must be done for recovery of vision.

Cataract is opacification of the normally clear lens of eye. Most commonly, it develops with age. Once you find it difficult to do your routine day to day activities such as driving, watching television, reading books etc, consider getting an appointment with an eye doctor. Most corneal diseases are treatable. Diseases of the cornea requires skilled management. Diseases of the cornea such as keratitis, Corneal dystrophies, keratoconus, degenerative conditions of the cornea need investigative modalities such as topographic analysis and Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (As-OCT).

Dry eye is a condition when a person does not have good quality tears to lubricate the eye. Sometimes, dry eyes cause a lot of tearing. This is reflex tearing, which happens to try to compensate for the dryness. Dry eyes occur due to absence of some important component of tear film, which must be supplemented. A very severe disease may need scleral contact lens or ocular reconstruction such as amniotic membrane transplantation and limbal stem cell transplantation.

Glaucoma.jpg

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions where high eye pressure causes damage to the optic nerve. Optic nerve is important because it sends visual signals from retina to the brain. Glaucoma often has subtle to no symptoms. Once diagnosed, medical therapy including eye-drops and oral medications are required. The aim is to control and monitor eye pressure. In most patients, this can be achieved with eye-drops. Some may require a surgery.
